Grief isn’t something you “get better” at. It doesn’t disappear. It lingers, sometimes heavy, sometimes quiet, always present. But in the midst of it, I’m learning to move with it. How to build a life that makes space for both the love I lost and the life I’m still living.
This past week wasn’t about any big shifts or realizations. It was about something small but just as important, consistency. The little things that keep me grounded. The small choices that make the days feel more manageable.
The Power Of Small Systems
I’ve started settling into a rhythm that works for me. It’s not perfect, but it’s mine.
- Keeping the house clean every day so it never feels overwhelming
- Doing laundry midweek so I’m not buried in it by the weekend.
- Writing out my to-do lists and actually checking things off.
- Choosing sleep when my body needs it, even when my mind tells me there’s more to do.
They may not seem like much, but they make a difference.
Building Discipline, Not Just Routines
This isn’t about motivation. Motivation is unreliable. It comes and goes. What I’m building now is discipline. That means:
- Talking myself through tasks when I don’t feel like doing them.
- Pushing through the moments when I’d rather put things off.
- Acknowledging progress, even when it doesn’t feel big.
Some days, it’s easier. Other days, it’s a struggle. But, I’m realizing that consistency, even in the smallest things, adds up.
Moving Forward
There’s no perfect formula to any of this. I don’t expect every day to feel like progress, but I do know that moving forward, no matter how slow, will always be better than standing still. Some days will feel better than others, and that’s okay.
What matters is that I’m here. I’m still moving. And that’s enough.
If you’re in the same place, just keep going. You got this.
With love,
