This past week, I feel as though I have gained some clarity and I feel like the small changes I am making are adding up. I am being more mindful of what I am consuming, but I am not restricting myself. I just enjoy things in moderation. I am choosing to prep and eat food at home more often. I have also been packing my lunch for my in office days, which has been a game changer. Packing snacks that I actually want has also helped because yes, there are free snacks at work, but are the the best options for me? Probably not.
I have been drinking more water, taking my vitamins, and being intentional about what I put into my body.
If you’re just joining me on this journey, I’ve been sharing weekly check ins to track my progress, stay accountable, and build healthier habits. If you missed last week’s update, you can read Figuring It Out As I go : My Two Week Check In here.
Food, Snacking, and Awareness
Fruit snacks are a staple in homes with kids, and I love them myself. I also love sweets in general, so I am being mindful of limiting myself to one pack of fruit snacks a day if I even have one at all. I am also staying away from goldfish. I love them, but I realized how much I’m snacking on them.
Instead of reaching for a snack without thinking, I am making better choices. Instead of fruit snacks and goldfish, I have been grabbing Cliff bars, making a smoothie, or having a yogurt parfait with blueberries, strawberries, and granola. It still feels like a sweet treat, but it is much better for me than my usual go-to.
For dinner, I have been eating salads for the past two weeks. It has helped me a lot because I feel full and I am getting in my veggies. I am not restricting myself from enjoying food, I just want to be mindful of what I eat. I am not going to deprive myself of the foods I enjoy. If I want to get ice cream, I will get it, but not as frequently as I was before. I am also paying attention to my portion sizes. I have noticed that I tend to indulge when food is readily available, so I am learning not to buy things I know I will binge eat.
One of my favorite snacks lately has been P3 Protein Packs. Sometimes I will eat two, but I still feel good about my choice.
This week, my go to lunch has been salmon with fried rice. It has been an easy and filling meal that I enjoy.
Taking My Vitamins
I have been consistent with taking my vitamins, which has helped me feel more balanced. Her is what I am taking and why.
- Iron – Helps with energy levels
- Multivitamin – Covers any gaps in my nutrition and supports overall health
- Collagen Supports skin, hair, nails, and joint health. I use Vital Proteins Collagen.
- Fish Oil – Supports heart and brain health. Helps with inflammation.
- Vitamin B12 – Helps with energy and metabolism. My blood work showed a deficiency, so I am making sure to stay on top it.
- Vitamin D – African Americans are more prevalent to have this deficiency. I have been low in the past, so I make sure to keep this one in rotation as well.
- Magnesium Glycinate – Helps with relaxation and sleep.
Making Progress
I didn’t realize how much progress I had made until I stepped on the scale. I am now at 227.8 pounds, it may not seem like a huge drop, but it is a reminder that the small changes I am making are adding up.
I am not able to work out as much as I would like, but I am learning that consistency is not just about how often I go to the gym. It is about the choices I make every day, choosing to prep my meals instead eating out, drinking more water, taking my vitamins, and being mindful of what I put into my body.
One thing I want to work on is tracking how I feel after I eat different foods. I have not been as consistent with writing in my food journal, so I am challenging myself to get back to that next week. I want to see how certain foods affect my energy, mood, and overall well-being.

I am seeing progress, and I feel good about where I am heading.
This is more than just about losing weight. It is about feeling good, having energy, and creating habits that actually fit my life.
I am learning to be patient with myself and build the habit, one small step at a time.
